Our History

1936

Gym Source opened in New York City as a sporting goods store for consumers and sports clubs. Over the next several decades it developed a reputation for fitness gear.

1978

The company underwent an employee buyout. The sporting goods and equipment business was expanded to include amenity centers for amateur sports clubs and private membership clubs. The company earned a reputation among professional runners and tennis athletes for its expertise in state-of-the-art performance gear.

1985

The company focused on its commercial business. Commercial customers included college and university training centers, private membership clubs, corporate employee workout facilities, and multi-family and high-rise residential builders and operators. Gym Source became the largest equipment dealer for the top three fitness equipment manufacturers in the U.S.

1986—2016

As the leading fitness supplier in the country, Gym Source expanded to serve millions of people and thousands of companies, universities, high schools, hotels, country clubs, healthcare facilities, fitness clubs across the country. UM Holdings Ltd. Purchased a majority ownership in the company.

2018

UM Holdings Ltd. bought Gym Source outright. Leveraging strong brand recognition, the company expanded its operations to more than thirty retail outlets and increased its commercial client base through existing markets and new market segments including hospitality, wellness, health clubs, and government clients.

2021

The company divested its retail operations, enabling it to focus on its commercial customer base. Today, Gym Source has a national footprint, meeting the needs of its customers from coast to coast.

2022

Gym Source repositioned its preventative maintenance and service capabilities through its certified independent service provider network. This structure enables it to offer national programs to meet the needs of customers with multiple locations.
