At Gym Source, we value the expertise of personal trainers. That’s why we regularly spotlight local trainers who have a passion for fitness. This month we are featuring Kathy Goetz, owner of Kathy Goetz Fitness Training in the Great Falls, Virginia area. She offers in-home and in-studio training sessions, and works with clients of all fitness levels.
Kathy’s fitness philosophy focuses on harnessing the power of the mind to stay committed whether your goal is to increase your strength and endurance, or improve your overall health.
“Mindset is a powerful force for making change.” She has a passion for fitness and truly loves helping others enjoy their journey towards improving their lives.
She often has her clients practice visualization techniques or mantras to achieve higher performance levels. Utilizing mantras is one way she employs visualization tactics during her training sessions.
“Just keep repeating what motivates you: I am strong. I love hills. I can do this,” she says. Kathy believes fitness is as much a mental process as it is a physical one. “We have more power and control over our bodies than we think.”
Kathy’s personal passion is running. “I really enjoy the competitive aspect of racing as well as the feeling of accomplishment after a hard run. The sense of freedom I get while running and the camaraderie with other runners is very rewarding. Running is a gift that I hope to be blessed with for the rest of my life.”
Kathy’s training tips include:
– Determine your fitness level and goals. “All fitness goals are unique and personal, but they should challenge you.”
– Ease into your training program. “It is a gradual process to condition your body.”
– Maintain a workout schedule and stay committed.
– Enjoy the process and remember to use your motivational mantras.
To train her clients she uses an assortment of home fitness equipment. Her favorite? Octane’s XT cross trainer.
“I love that it mimics natural running motion without impact. Plus, the adjustable stride length with cross training capabilities guarantees my clients a challenging workout.”
Additionally, Kathy utilizes free weights, stability balls, and resistance bands to ensure her clients receive a quality workout. “It is important to keep the muscles guessing with a variety of fitness equipment and exercises.”
While Kathy trains clients who have a variety of personal goals (including weight loss, increasing strength, and running) she wants EVERY client to approach fitness as a lifelong process.
“Always try to improve. Find what gives you an edge and dig deep into it,” she says.
