Trainer Spotlight -- Debra Goldman

A certified personal trainer for 33 years and a Stott-trained Pilates instructor for 16 years, Debra Goldman is the owner of Pilates Works, Inc. in Wayland, Mass. Having built a sound fitness philosophy focused on pain management, Deb helps her clients tone and strengthen muscles, strengthen core, increase flexibility, lose weight, reverse osteoporosis, and reduce pain.

After going through a dramatic physical transformation when she was 21, Deb became one of the first personal trainers in Massachusetts.  She started training at FitCorp in Boston, where she was bit by the “iron bug” and lost 50 pounds. After losing weight and reshaping her body, she realized she had found her life’s work and wanted to share with others what she had learned—and what she continues to learn every day.
“What I love most about the work I do is teaching people how to improve their health and well-being,” says Deb.  “There is nothing better than watching someone incorporate exercise and healthy nutrition into their life and watching them take off.”

Deb’s greatest success story is reflected in her own good health.  Having faced many medical challenges—including a life-long metabolic disorder—she’s able (at age 55) to maintain a healthy weight and live disease-free.  Plus, as a cancer survivor with one kidney (she had kidney disease at 15), Deb knows what it’s like to live through a life-threatening illness and adapt exercise and diet appropriately to maintain optimum health.  As Deb explains: “The lessons I’ve learned qualify me to pass that knowledge on to others by both example and through my writing.”

The Pilates Works studio offers the most up-to-date fitness equipment available, including the area’s only Power Plate, Deb’s favorite piece of equipment. In fact, Deb has been using Power Plate for seven years, with amazing results. “I have osteoarthritis in both knees and various aches and pains from a lifetime of movement—I spent years as a ballet dancer, then as a bodybuilder.  And I still do four hours of exercise every day,” says Deb. “I am pain-free because of the amazing technology of Power Plate’s whole body vibration.”

Deb uses Power Plate with all of her clients for weight-loss, balance, bone-density, strength and tone. Her clients love it, especially her elderly clients. Deb explains “My oldest client, who is 88, says it helps her manage her arthritis pain and keeps her walking!”
