Since 1969, the Roxbury Tenants of Harvard (RTH) in Boston has served as a resident-controlled neighborhood in a section of the city with numerous high-rise residences—creating a safe, diverse neighborhood noted for its strong community participation and high quality of life. <!–more–>
For 15 years, RTH leaders worked toward the building of a community center where residents of all ages and ability levels could gather, learn and engage in physical activities—a goal difficult to achieve within a densely-packed urban environment. Their efforts were officially rewarded on 10/31/14 at the grand opening of the RTH Community Center, a brand-new 28,000 square-foot facility at 20A Vining Street with full-size indoor basketball courts, youth lounge, computer labs—and state-of-the-art wellness center installed by Gym Source.
“Gym Source was critical to making the community center in Mission Hill a success,” says Tanya Hahnel, RTH Community Center project manager with Traggorth Companies. “From redesigning the space for a fully-equipped wellness center with cardio, selectorized and free-weight equipment appropriate to any population—to trouble-shooting installation issues before they came up—our Gym Source rep helped us every step of the way. The RTH community now has access to truly life-changing wellness programming and independent fitness programs, and we could not have found a better partner for our new facility than Gym Source.”
In addition to designing the layout of the wellness center, Gym Source installed all manner of cardio training equipment from brands such as TRUE, Cybex, Octane and Matrix, along with strength training equipment from Cybex and Matrix.
“We couldn’t be more proud to help RTH realize its dream of opening a new community center,” says David Eaton, commercial sales manager for Gym Source. “We look forward to being part of the RTH family, and helping this incredible organization serve members of their community for years to come.”
