Each month, Gym Source features an employee who exemplifies the passion for fitness innovation and dedication to customer service for which the company is known.
Employee: John Geraghty
Location: Short Hills, NJ
Quotable: “I consider myself a personal assistant. My job is to find out what my clients are trying to accomplish, and then match them with the best equipment to reach their goals.”
John Geraghty, Gym Source sales manager at our Short Hills, NJ, showroom, takes his role as a fitness industry professional personally. And it’s exactly his personal touch that’s earned him a place as this month’s featured Gym Source employee.
“I got into the industry by accident,” he says, “but I fell in love with it. And the opportunity to work at Gym Source is incredible, because of the company’s premier reputation in the industry—and especially because of the clients.”
John landed in Short Hills following success in a variety of fitness retail positions across the country; he counts this suburban New York City enclave among his favorite locales. According to John, his clients’ personal drive and passion for fitness is second-to-none. One recent Short Hills client in particular appreciated John’s expertise and willingness to go the extra mile.
“My client was redoing his entire basement and adding a home fitness center,” John explains. “He knew he wanted quality equipment, but didn’t know specifics—like brands and models. I listened carefully to his workout schedule and his goals, and I recommended the right equipment to help him achieve the best results.”
That careful listening helped John unlock a critical aspect of his client’s needs. “Turns out, this fitness center wasn’t just for him—his whole family would be using it. Knowing that, I better understood the equipment he needed. It had to accommodate users of different ages and abilities, who may even be working out at the same time.”
First, John recommended a Matrix T7XE treadmill, which he calls “the best of the best. It’s got easy touchscreen operation and total internet access—my client can check emails and fill his calendar while working out. But it’s also an escape, and lets him run anywhere in the world with virtual programming. Not to mention, it lasts forever.”
Next, John recommended a Cybex 770 Arc Trainer. “This machine lets his whole family get a great cardio workout. It’s got separate motions for climbing, striding and gliding, depending on the user. And because my client can strength train and target specific muscle groups on the Cybex 770, it’s efficient, too.”
Finally, John recommended a Nexersys pro boxing simulator. “My client mentioned that he wanted a punching bag, but now he’s got a personal boxing trainer right at home! It adds more fun to his routine fun, and his whole family loves it.”
John plans to continue his simple formula for success. “To me, it’s all about listening. Find out what each client needs, and personalize their purchase experience. That’s what I deliver, and it’s what separates Gym Source from everyone else.”
