Fit Fact: Ankle sprains are most popular sports injury

Reports estimate that 25,000 Americans suffer from an ankle sprain each day, which account for almost half of all sports injuries—particularly among athletes with a previous ankle injury. More than 80 percent of ankle sprains are a result of inversion, or inward rolling, of the ankle. How can you prevent future injury? Studies show that properly applied external ankle supports (tape, semi-rigid, and rigid braces) along with balance block exercise training can reduce the risk of ankle re-injury by more than 50%—with no adverse effect on athletic performance.
